Analysts have projected a grim second-quarter print for Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA), which is expected to report its results on July 29, before the market opens.
Wall Street has projected an 83% decline in its EPS to $0.11, while revenue is expected to dip slightly by about 4% to $4.03B.
Over the last 3 months, EPS as well as revenue estimates have seen 0 upward revisions and 7 downward moves, representing a bearish setup ahead of the earnings.
Last quarter, the Israeli drugmaker beat analyst estimates but cut its full-year adjusted earnings outlook by $0.66 to the range of $1.91 - $2.11. The reduction was due to its $900M acquisition of Chicago, Illinois-based biotech firm Emalex Biosciences.
While the deal’s impact has been priced in in its full-year forecast, its effect on the firm’s Q2 bottom line remains to be seen.
Teva continues to see FY26 revenue in the range of $16.4B - $16.8B.
In June, the company submitted an NDA to the US FDA seeking approval of ecopipam, which it acquired from Emalex, for pediatric Tourette syndrome.
Seeking Alpha analyst Stephen Ayers sees the drug generating around $950M in peak annual sales, while other analysts expect it to go as high as $1B.
“I estimated a 50% peak share and a $50,000 net price per year, while the list price could be as high as $100,000 per year. I think this is a drug that will likely be "gross-to-net heavy," given that this market is saturated with dirt-cheap generics,” Ayers said.
Going into the earnings, investors are likely to watch out for the management’s comments around the drug and its impact on Teva’s P&L.
Additionally, they may also expect comments around Teva’s reignited legal battle with Eli Lilly (LLY) over an agreement that allowed the former to market a generic version of the latter's osteoporosis drug Forteo (teriparatide).
Over the last 2 years, TEVA has beaten EPS estimates 100% of the time and has beaten revenue estimates 88% of the time. Ahead of the earnings, Teva inched up 1.19% to $31.45.
