Magnolia Oil & Gas (MGY) down 1.8% in Tuesday's trading despite receiving an upgrade to Buy from Hold with a $33 price target at Bank of America, with energy shares moving broadly lower as U.S. crude oil futures slide below $80/bbl.
BofA analyst Gabe Daoud views the WildFire acquisition favorably given 9% cash flow per share accretion with significant scale added that extends inventory life to ~11 years from eight on the bank's prior estimates and sees further upside to inventory should Magnolia (MGY) lean into Austin Chalk and successfully delineate the Woodbine.
Dauod thinks Magnolia (MGY) shares are at an attractive entry point after underperforming the XOP oil producers ETF by 426 bps since the WildFire deal was announced, and he believes the stock could stand out among oily small-to-midcaps given the attractive free cash flow and return on capital profile, volume growth supported by a low reinvestment rate, improved inventory, and synergy and resource upside.
