JetBlue (JBLU) has never spoken to United Airlines (UAL) about any potential deal between the two airlines, JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty said.
Geraghty never spoke to United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby about M&A, she said in an interview on CNBC on Tuesday.
"We've never spoken with Scott about M&A," Geraghty told the business news network. "We've really spoken a lot about our Blue Sky partnership and how we can really bring that to the next level. There's a ton of opportunity for us to get closer and continue working together."
The comments come after JetBlue (JBLU) shares soared 13% on March 25 after a Semafor report that the airline was evaluating plans to sell itself to a rival. JetBlue (JBLU) tapped advisers to see how a deal with United Airlines (UAL) Alaska Airlines (ALK), or Southwest Airlines (LUV) might be perceived in Washington.
Geraghty's remarks also follow a Wall Street Journal report on Sunday that United Airlines (UAL) quietly explored a merger with Delta Air Lines (DAL) last year, but preliminary discussions between the two carriers ended without progressing.
Shares of JetBlue (JBLU) soared 9.5% on Tuesday after the airline reported a Q2 EPS beat.
