BMW (BMWYY) plans to cut several thousand jobs in Germany by the end of 2027 through a voluntary redundancy program agreed upon with employee representatives as the company accelerates cost reductions amid weaker demand in China, Reuters reported.
The programme targets administrative and development divisions, while production operations will be excluded from the reductions, the report said. The company expects its workforce to shrink by around 8,000 positions.
The move follows BMW’s recent profit outlook cut, driven by weaker-than-expected business in China, where vehicle sales have declined sharply.
BMW (BMWKY) employs about 150,000 people globally and had previously indicated plans for a reduction in employment levels.
