CME Group (CME) is reportedly planning to launch futures and options contracts tied to professional and college sports.
Shares were 0.19% higher at $260.50 during pre-market trading on Wednesday.
The financial exchange operator is working with FutureSports, an upstart index provider, to underpin the new offerings, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing a statement that it saw.
The sports futures contracts are expected to be cash settled and expire on a monthly and quarterly basis, with trading expected to begin as soon as this summer, according to the report.
The product will be the first of its kind in the sports industry and comes in response to the rapid rise of prediction markets and the sports-gaming industry, Bloomberg noted.
The two companies are said to be planning to announce more details about the launch in the coming weeks.
