NXP Semiconductors' (NXPI) second quarter results and outlook surpassed market expectations, but shares were down 5% during market action on Wednesday.
Analysts pointed out that growth still appears limited in the auto and mobile markets.
"NXPI still sees no restocking at western tier‑1 auto OEMs, even as peer TXN flagged an auto inflection with customers replenishing from low inventory (China EV/hybrid‑led)," said Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya in an investor note. "$1.5bn Physical AI funnel and >$500mn 2026 data center run rate open a new growth leg l-t, but remain small vs. analog peers total 10-20%+ AI data center exposure. Mobile headwinds ahead, likely down YoY over the next few quarters on unit declines."
BofA reiterated its Neutral rating and reduced its price target to $300 from $310.
Similarly, Wells Fargo maintained its Equal weight rating and nudged its price target down to $280 from $290.
"While NXP delivered positive 2Q26 results, shares are down given elevated expectations looking for more material auto upside (vs. inline print)," said Wells Fargo analyst Joe Quatrochi in a note. "W/ fwd est largely unch'd, we view cont'd accel of auto recovery as key driver of shares."
Finally, Needham maintained its Buy rating and $300 target on the stock, citing data center and physical AI growth.
"NXP expects data center revenue to exceed $500MM in CY26, up from ~$200MM in CY25," said Needham analyst N. Quinn Bolton in a Wednesday note. "This growth is being driven mainly by two franchises. The first is top-of-rack switching and SmartNIC control, built around the company's Layerscape processor roadmap, which is scaling across leading hyperscalers. The second is control, monitoring, and security processing across the rack."
"The company's physical AI pipeline increased $500MM Q/Q to $1.5BN in 2Q26 (from $1BN in 1Q26)," Bolton added. "The physical AI funnel spans >200 customers across applications such as human-machine interface (HMI), vision systems, predictive maintenance, industrial applications, and automotive e-cabin applications. Notably, AI-enabled processors are on track to account for ~15% of Industrial and IoT processor revenue in 2026, more than double from last year's level. While physical AI is still in very early innings, management views this as a key content growth driver longer term."
NXP competitors Texas Instruments (TXN) and STMicroelectronics (STM) were down 2.2% and 2.6%, respectively.
