Adobe (ADBE) has received an early termination notice from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission regarding its pending acquisition of Topaz Labs.
An early termination notice means the FTC and U.S. Department of Justice have fast-tracked the acquisition. It is granted if the enforcement agencies find that the transaction is unlikely to "substantially lessen competition."
Adobe shares were up nearly 6% by noon trading on Wednesday.
Adobe announced its intent to acquire Topaz Labs last month. Topaz Labs specializes in developing video and image enhancement models.
"Building technology to make images and videos look their absolute best has been our life's work for more than twenty years," said Topaz Labs CEO Eric Yang. "We've always believed that technology should serve human creativity rather than replace it—and so has Adobe. Together, we believe we can dramatically expand what's possible for filmmakers and creators everywhere."
The acquisition will help Adobe expand its video and image model offerings with state-of-the-art AI enhancement models in Adobe Firefly, Firefly Services and Creative Cloud apps. Topaz Labs will also bring its proprietary Neurostream technology that enables large, complex AI models to run locally on consumer devices.
Last year, Topaz Labs won an Emmy at the 76th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for AI Image/Video Enhancement for High Quality TV Catalog Restoration.
