Netflix (NFLX) will pay $200M to secure the broadcast rights to next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, sources told Bloomberg.
The streaming giant announced last month that it acquired the rights to show matches in the U.S. and Canada for the 2027 Women's World Cup and 2031 Women's World Cup tournaments. Notably, the $200M price tag makes it one of the biggest media deals for a women’s sports property. The WNBA's 11-year, $3.1B deal is considered the largest in women's sports, as it works out to be about $280M a year. By comparison, FOX (FOXA) paid out $485M for the broadcast rights in the U.S. to the 2026 Men's World Cup.
In addition to the Women's World Cup, Netflix's (NFLX) biggest sports rights for the next year or two are WWE Raw and other WWE events, NFL Christmas Day games plus a few extra NFL games, and MLB special events like Opening Night and the Home Run Derby.
