China's Chery Automobile (CRAUY) will invest $75M in South Korean automaker KG Mobility through convertible bonds, expanding into overseas markets.
Under the agreement signed on Sunday, KGM will issue convertible bonds that will be fully purchased by Chery. If the bonds are converted into shares upon maturity, Chery (CRAUY) is expected to acquire an ~10% stake in the South Korean automaker.
The investment builds on a strategic partnership launched in October 2024 to develop new vehicles and next-generation mobility technologies.
"Based on mutual trust, Chery and KGM will continue to strengthen strategic cooperation to secure future competitiveness and achieve sustainable growth in the global market," KGM ChairmanKwak Jea-sun said, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency. Chery Chairman Yin Tongyue said the investment marks an important milestone that will create long-term value through closer collaboration between the two companies.
As part of the expanded alliance, Chery (CRAUY) and KGM will jointly develop KGM's SE10 mid-size SUV, due to launch in January 2027, while expanding cooperation in autonomous driving, software-defined vehicles, EV platforms and overseas markets.
