Casino operator Caesars Entertainment (CZR) and real estate owner VICI Properties (VICI) are working together on plans to build a new modern arena just off the Las Vegas Strip that could be the home to a future NBA expansion.
VICI Properties management (VICI) confirmed the partnership during the company's second quarter earnings conference call last week, noting that 50 acres of land behind the Paris, Horseshoe, and Planet Hollywood casinos are being considered for the arena project. Due to the pending acquisition of Caesars (CZR) by Fertitta Entertainment, the casino giant did not hold an earnings conference call of its own.
The NBA is in an exploratory phase for adding teams, with Las Vegas and Seattle reported as the main markets under consideration. In March, the NBA Board of Governors voted to explore expansion into Las Vegas and Seattle, with a target of reaching a decision by the end of 2026. Reports from ESPN and The Athletic say the league is widely expected to expand, potentially aiming for a debut for the 2028-29 NBA season.
Notably, Las Vegas has strong NBA ties through Summer League and marquee events like its in-season tournament, and multiple ownership groups have reportedly shown interest.
