Sterling Infrastructure (STRL) reported quarterly results that topped Wall Street expectations and raised its full-year outlook, driven by booming demand for data center and other mission-critical infrastructure projects.
The company's stock slipped 2% in extended trading Monday. Its price has surged 125% in the past 12 months.
During the second quarter, revenue nearly doubled to $1.17 billion, beating the analyst consensus estimate of $1.02 billion.
Adjusted earnings rose to $5.80 a share, ahead of the Wall Street consensus of $5.18 a share.
Net income advanced to $155.8 million, or $5.00 a share, from $71.0 million, or $2.31 a share, a year earlier.
For investors, the results reinforced the company's transformation into a major supplier of infrastructure for fast-growing markets such as data centers, semiconductor fabrication plants and manufacturing facilities. Sterling has been shifting resources away from traditional transportation projects toward higher-margin E-Infrastructure work while expanding through acquisitions, helping drive rapid revenue growth and a backlog that now provides visibility well into future years.
The company also increased its 2026 guidance, projecting revenue of $4.00 billion to $4.15 billion, compared with the consensus estimate of $3.91 billion.
It also expects adjusted earnings of $19.70 to $20.30 a share, topping the Wall Street estimate of $19.10.
Chief Executive Officer Joe Cutillo highlighted the company's execution and growing visibility.
"We delivered an outstanding second quarter, with adjusted net income increasing 118% to deliver adjusted diluted EPS of $5.80."
Signed backlog reached $4.33 billion, up 116% from a year earlier, while combined backlog climbed 150% to $5.62 billion. The company said its pipeline of high-probability future phase work now exceeds $1.4 billion, giving it visibility into more than $7 billion of potential work.
Sterling's E-Infrastructure Solutions segment remained the primary growth engine, with revenue jumping 192% as demand stayed strong for data centers, semiconductor facilities and other mission-critical projects. Mission-critical work accounted for 92% of the segment's backlog at quarter end.
Transportation Solutions revenue declined 20% as the company continued reallocating resources toward higher-margin E-Infrastructure projects, although adjusted operating income for the segment still increased 8%. Building Solutions revenue slipped 1% amid weak housing affordability that has weighed on residential construction demand.
Cash flow also remained strong. Operating cash flow totaled $328.0 million during the first six months of the year, while cash and cash equivalents stood at $464.5 million at the end of June.
The company generated earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $233.6 million during the quarter, while adjusted ebitda increased 104% to $256.7 million.
Sterling Infrastructure (STRL) operates through three business segments. Its best-known operations include large-scale site development and mission-critical electrical services for data centers, semiconductor fabrication plants, manufacturing facilities, highways, bridges and residential concrete foundations across the United States.
