Pro Farmer

U.S. most-active corn futures rose to its highest closing price since July 2023 after results from the Pro Farmer Crop Tour projected a smaller U.S. corn crop in 2026 after finding lower yield potential across much of the Corn Belt.
The Pro Farmer tour's expected national corn yield of 173.2 bushels per acre came in well below the U.S. Department of Agriculture's most-recent 180.7 bushels per acre estimate and ~5% below 2025 levels, marking the first time in three growing seasons that Pro Farmer has not forecast a record yield.
Samples showed smaller crops than last year across multiple states, and expectations that Iowa could offset weather-related losses in Indiana and Illinois were tempered by drought in western Iowa. Pro Farmer economist Lane Akre said.
Soybeans provided a brighter outlook, as Pro Farmer projected a national average yield of 53.3 bushels per acre, slightly above the 2025 yield but a bit below 2024.
Separately, India - one of the world's biggest wheat producers - scrapped a years-long ban on exports of the grain, a move that could ease global supplies that are under strain from escalating attacks between Russia and Ukraine.
India's government has permitted wheat exports with immediate effect, according to notifications issued Monday by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
On the CBOT, corn (C_1:COM) for December delivery settled up 1.4% at a three-year closing high $5.15 1/2 per bushel, while soybeans (S_1:COM) for November delivery fell 1.2% to $12.24 1/4 per bushel and wheat (W_1:COM) for December delivery came in roughly flat at $6.99 1/2 per bushel.
