AeroVironment (AVAV) plans to invest $100 million in a company-owned campus in Moorpark, California, consolidating employees and operations from five leased locations across Southern California.
The approximately 20-acre campus will house research, engineering, design, prototyping and production activities, AeroVironment (AVAV) said. The defense technology company expects to begin renovation and construction work in fiscal 2028, with employees moving to the site in phases before it becomes fully operational in 2029.
For investors, the project represents a long-term bet on growing demand for AeroVironment’s (AVAV) unmanned systems and other defense technologies. Bringing five sites under one roof could improve efficiency and accelerate product development, while company ownership may provide more control over future expansion. The investment will require significant capital, but AeroVironment (AVAV) said the spending is already included in the capital-expenditure plans underlying its fiscal 2027 guidance.
“This infrastructure investment reaffirms AV’s enduring commitment to California, where the company was founded more than five decades ago,” Chairman, President and CEO Wahid Nawabi said in the announcement.
“We are reinvesting in labs, lines and people,” Nawabi added. “The campus will be designed around how our teams work, with modern, flexible spaces that support focused work, technical collaboration and future growth.”
The campus will be designed to accommodate emerging technologies and changing military requirements. AeroVironment (AVAV) said the consolidation should reduce the operational complications created by having employees and equipment spread among multiple facilities.
The investment also signals that California will remain central to AeroVironment’s (AVAV) research, product development and manufacturing operations. The Moorpark property will complement the company’s broader U.S. manufacturing network as it works to meet demand from American and allied customers.
