Bristol Myers Squibb(BMY.US)

Automated cell therapy manufacturer Cellares has initiated a restructuring process after Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY), one of its key customers, ended a partnership, Endpoints News reported on Tuesday.
The breakup comes more than two years after the pharma giant inked a $380M deal with the then-five-year-old Cellares to reserve manufacturing capacity for its CAR-T cell therapies in 2024.
Founded in 2019, the South San Francisco-based company has gained the attention of leading cell therapy developers such as Bristol Myers (BMY) and Gilead Sciences (GILD) due to its manufacturing expertise.
“A large pharmaceutical customer recently made the decision to end its partnership with Cellares. This was a decision specific to that customer,” said co-founder and CEO Fabian Gerlinghaus in a LinkedIn post over the weekend.
“The loss of this partnership requires us to resize the company. That means saying goodbye to talented colleagues who helped build Cellares and advance our mission,” Gerlinghaus added without naming the customer or the number of layoffs the company is planning.
Neither Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY) nor Cellares responded to requests for comment.
