Eni (E) CEO Claudio Descalzi met Tuesday with Egypt's President El-Sisi in Cairo to discuss the company's $8.5B in investments in Egypt and plans to expand exploration and production activities.
Descalzi said Eni (E) aims to strengthen its position as the largest energy company operating in Egypt, with plans to drill 30 exploration wells and 200 development wells in the coming period as part of its investment program across its concessions, including the Mediterranean and Zohr field.
Descalzi and El-Sisi also discussed the status of Eni's (E) Cronos gas development project offshore Cyprus, which Eni said will play a crucial role in developing Egypt's status as a Mediterranean energy hub.
Egypt Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi reportedly attended the meeting alongside senior Eni (E) executives.
Eni (E) also said Tuesday it is working with BP (BP) and Egyptian Petroleum Corp. to reach a final investment decision in the next few months regarding Egypt's recently discovered Denise West natural gas field, Reuters reported.
Eni (E) said gas from the offshore gas discovery, which was announced last April, could come in less than two years.
