Cameco (CCJ) up 4.9% in Tuesday's trading after South Korea’s government denied a report that the Trump administration had proposed the country acquire a stake in Westinghouse Electric.
The denial followed a report in the Korea Economic Daily that the U.S. had proposed South Korea invest in Westinghouse as part of a drive to seek Korean capital and construction expertise for an expansion of nuclear power in the U.S.
The report said the South Korean government was considering Korea Electric Power (KEP) as a potential buyer and could tap the $200B U.S.-Korea strategic investment pledge made as part of the trade deal to finance the purchase, although the size of any potential investment and the stake to be acquired had not been decided.
South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources said the report was "not in accordance with the facts."
Westinghouse is jointly owned by Brookfield Renewable Partners (BAM) (BEP), which holds a 51% majority interest, and Cameco (CCJ), which owns a 49% stake.
