Shares of Moderna (MRNA), the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based mRNA biotechnology company, rallied just over 14% on Tuesday. The stock closed at $158.52, rising $19.63 on the day.

The catalyst for Moderna's extraordinary run originated on August 19, when Moderna and Merck announced that intismeran autogene, their jointly developed individualized mRNA cancer therapy combined with Keytruda, met both its primary endpoint of recurrence-free survival and a key secondary endpoint of distant metastasis-free survival in the Phase 3 INTerpath-001 melanoma trial.
The announcement sent shares nearly tripling on August 19, posting a gain of almost 177% in what was described as the largest single-session advance by any S&P 500 component this century, adding roughly $44 billion in market capitalization.
