An Army doctor is working with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to investigate whether U.S. troops died from COVID-19 vaccines after former President Joe Biden imposed a vaccine mandate for service members in 2021, Politico reported. Based on a deposition given by Army doctor Theresa Long during a hearing at a Virginia federal court on August 14, the publication said that many of those of vaccine-related deaths under scrutiny were linked to mRNA vaccines from Pfizer ( PFE )/BioNTech ( BNTX ) and Moderna ( MRNA ). Long, who holds a master’s in public health and is board certified in aerospace medicine, testified last month supporting conservative influencer Ivan Raiklin in a case brought by former CIA doctor Terry Adirim against the agency and Raiklin over his ouster. She told the court that as part of her role, she is investigating whether the COVID-19 vaccines were the cause of 2,544 unverified deaths reported to HHS’ Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System from U.S. service members. Long added that she was aware of 28 individuals who died due to the COVID vaccinations, but she was barred from sharing further details. She didn’t disclose how long she had been working with Kennedy, a well-known vaccine skeptic, but said her duties at the Defense Department began 10 days before she was set to retire. Long added she expects to finish her work on potential vaccine-related complications “within a year.” HHS and Long did not respond to Politico’s requests for comment on her role at the agency. The Pentagon said it doesn’t “have anything to announce at this time" and referred to a statement on reinstating service members who were discharged during the Biden administration over their refusal to receive COVID shots.
