ServiceNow ( NOW ) on Thursday announced new tools to help employees build AI agents and give companies more control over how those agents operate. The company expanded EmployeeWorks, its platform for creating AI agents without coding, and introduced ToolSmith, a development environment designed to shorten the time needed to build tools for AI agents from days to minutes. Separately, ServiceNow introduced AI Passport, a credential system that lets companies set and enforce permissions for AI agents and Model Context Protocol servers, which connect AI systems with external tools and data. The company also expanded its AI governance capabilities to help businesses track deployed agents, restrict their actions, and monitor spending against outcomes. AI Passport can redirect or restrict agents that operate outside their authorized scope, with a mechanism to shut them down when necessary. ServiceNow is seeking to help businesses move AI agents into production while maintaining oversight of the data they access and the actions they can take.
