U.S. oilfield services provider Halliburton ( HAL ) is set to report its third-quarter earnings before the market opens on Tuesday, October 20, with analysts expecting earnings per share of $0.58, unchanged year over year, and revenue of $5.58 billion, down 0.4% from the same period last year. Halliburton is rated a buy at current levels, supported by bullish management commentary and improving fundamentals in North American and international markets. HAL’s Jafurah contracts with Saudi Aramco, and new international wins in Australia, Brazil, and Venezuela represent billions in future high-margin revenue not yet priced in, Dave Messler SA investing group leader, said. Last week Halliburton ( HAL ) said it will not participate in the Sea Lion offshore oil project or any hydrocarbon exploration and production activities in or around the Falkland Islands, citing concerns raised by Argentina authorities over criminal and civil enforcement of existing legislation, pending new criminal and civil legislation, and existing right-to-contract certification regulations. Last month the company signed memorandums of understanding with Brazilian energy company Eneva and WESCA to pursue oil ​and gas development opportunities in Venezuela; financial terms were not disclosed. Halliburton ( HAL ) had exited Venezuela in 2019 to comply with U.S. sanctions but maintained a footprint in the company that would allow it to scale operations. Interest in Venezuela has ramped up ‌since the U.S. capture of former President Maduro in January, and companies with existing positions in the country, as well ​as those seeking new opportunities, are negotiating ⁠or finalizing agreements that could expand production and improve infrastructure. Looking beyond the current geopolitically induced market trends, another SA analyst sees "great opportunity for a contrarian long-term bet on higher oil prices. Institutional forecasts are telling us that a massive global oil glut awaits us on the other side of the current Iran-related disruption in supplies."
