QuantumScape ( QS ) shares popped 8% in Thursday's premarket trade after the company reported a narrower third-quarter loss and announced plans for a 100-megawatt-hour production line targeting AI data centers, aerospace, and defense markets. The company posted a net loss of $84.5M, or $0.14 per share, compared with a loss of $105.8M, or $0.18 per share, a year earlier and analysts' expectations of -$0.17. Its adjusted EBITDA loss was $60.7M, while customer billings totaled $9.8M. QuantumScape ended the quarter with $819.8M in liquidity and reaffirmed its full-year adjusted EBITDA loss guidance of $250M to $275M and capital expenditure outlook of $27M to $37M. Alongside its quarterly results, the company announced a partnership with Germany's Muehlbauer Group to develop a 100-megawatt-hour battery cell production line, with production targeted for 2028. This 100-MWh line will represent the first commercial-scale mass production of QS cells, with output aimed at meeting the rapidly emerging opportunities for our QSDC and QSAS business verticals. QuantumScape also highlighted progress in its AI data center business following the launch of its QS PowerBlock energy storage design. In testing, the system demonstrated four times the power density and five times the runtime of a conventional lithium-ion reference specification. In its automotive business, QuantumScape recorded its first customer billings under its Honda partnership and signed an agreement with another mobility manufacturer. It also reported initial billings from defense and other advanced applications. The company plans to provide further details on its next-generation battery technology and automotive partnerships at its Solid-State Battery Symposium on November 11 in Kyoto, Japan.
