Comcast ( CMCSA ) reported third-quarter adjusted earnings and revenue above consensus estimates, as improved profitability at streaming service Peacock helped offset continued pressure in its broadband business and weaker results at theme parks. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.07, compared with a consensus of 98 cents, as per data compiled by Bloomberg, while revenue of $29.30 billion topped the $29.14 billion estimate. Adjusted EBITDA was $9.11 billion, exceeding expectations of $8.88 billion, although it declined 5.8% from a year earlier. Revenue fell 6.1% to $29.30 billion on a reported basis but increased 0.5% on a pro forma basis, reflecting the Versant ( VSNT ) separation and the sale of Sky Germany. Peacock delivered its second consecutive profitable quarter, generating $261 million in adjusted EBITDA, compared with the $183.9 million consensus estimate. Paid subscribers rose 17% year over year to 48 million, slightly above expectations of 47.95 million. Revenue of $1.8 billion, however, missed the $1.88 billion estimate. Connectivity remained under pressure. Comcast ( CMCSA ) lost 144,000 domestic broadband customers, exceeding the estimated 133,262, while domestic video customer losses reached 274,000, more than the 228,000 estimate. Wireless line additions totaled 368,000, below the 392,375 consensus. Theme Parks revenue fell 4.4% to $2.60 billion, while adjusted EBITDA declined 17.1% to $780 million, reflecting lower admissions revenue and higher domestic park costs. Free cash flow was $4.21 billion, above the $3.19 billion estimate but down 14.8% year over year. Comcast’s ( CMCSA ) co-CEOs said near-term connectivity results reflect investments to navigate an “increasingly dynamic environment.” Shares were little changed, up 0.6% in the premarket trading on Thursday but remain down about 26.1% so far this year compared to a 13.3% rise in the broader index. Short interest on CMCSA stands at 1.96% of the total float.
