Carrier Global ( CARR ) said Thursday it plans to invest more than $600 million over the next three years in a manufacturing and engineering facility in Fort Worth, Texas, expanding production capacity for commercial cooling systems used in data centers, hospitals and other facilities. The investment will support production of air- and water-cooled commercial chillers and create 1,500 manufacturing, engineering and other jobs. The facility will encompass more than 1 million square feet, with operations expected to begin in 2027. For investors, the expansion reflects growing demand for cooling equipment as data center operators invest in infrastructure to support artificial intelligence and other computing workloads. Carrier said its commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning business has reached record backlog levels, supported by demand from data centers, healthcare, education and industrial customers. The investment could help the company convert that backlog into revenue, although the spending will require substantial capital before the facility reaches full production. Expanding U.S. manufacturing Carrier Chairman and Chief Executive David Gitlin said the investment would increase production capacity for thermal management systems while strengthening the company's domestic supply chain. He also emphasized the importance of expanding engineering capabilities and developing a skilled workforce to support future growth. The company selected Fort Worth because of its existing manufacturing base, available workforce and transportation infrastructure. The facility will be located in the AllianceTexas development, a business and industrial complex that has attracted manufacturing and logistics operations. Carrier also plans to establish engineering laboratories and work with local schools and colleges on workforce training programs. The company expects to pursue LEED certification for the facility as part of its environmental goals. The announcement comes as Carrier shares have gained 6.7% this year, trailing the 13% advance in the Standard & Poor's 500 stock index. The expansion signals management's expectations for continued growth in commercial cooling demand, although the company didn't provide estimates for the facility's potential revenue contribution or financial returns.
