CorMedix Inc. (CRMD), a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing therapies for life-threatening conditions, announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted for filing a supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) for REZZAYO (rezafungin for injection) for the prevention of invasive fungal diseases.
The FDA granted Priority Review to the application, which was submitted by CorMedix's global development partner, Mundipharma. The agency has set a target action date in the first quarter of 2027.
The sNDA is supported by the Phase 3 ReSPECT pivotal study, which evaluated the efficacy and safety of once-weekly rezafungin compared with a standard antimicrobial regimen for preventing invasive fungal diseases in adults undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
The ReSPECT trial previously reported positive topline results in April 2026. The study evaluated rezafungin's potential to prevent serious fungal infections in patients undergoing HSCT, a population at increased risk of invasive fungal diseases.
REZZAYO is currently FDA-approved for treating candidemia and invasive candidiasis in certain adults and pediatric patients aged 12 years and older who have limited or no alternative treatment options. The drug is an echinocandin antifungal administered once weekly.
If the FDA approves REZZAYO for the proposed preventive indication, CorMedix expects to begin promotional efforts in the second half of 2027.
The company said it will work with Mundipharma in the months leading up to the FDA's decision and prepare for a potential commercial launch.
REZZAYO is not currently approved for the prevention of invasive fungal diseases, and its safety and efficacy for this use have not been established.
CRMD has traded between $6.13 and $13.02 over the last year.
The stock closed Friday's trade at $7.26. In pre-market trading, the stock is at $7.30, up 0.55%.
