ALK-Abelló A/S (AKBLF.PK, ALK-B.CO), a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on allergy treatments, announced positive topline results from a Phase 3 trial evaluating ACARIZAX, its house dust mite sublingual immunotherapy tablet, in Chinese patients with allergic rhinitis or rhinoconjunctivitis, with or without asthma.
The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial enrolled 327 participants aged 12-65 years who received once-daily ACARIZAX or placebo for 24-28 weeks.
The study met its primary objective, demonstrating a treatment difference of 1.11 in the average daily total combined rhinitis score, equivalent to a 19.1% relative difference favoring ACARIZAX over placebo.
The treatment showed an early onset of efficacy from Week 8 and favorable results across adult and adolescent subgroups. Participants receiving ACARIZAX were 4.3 times more likely than those receiving placebo to report improved rhinitis symptoms at the end of the trial.
ACARIZAX was also found to be safe and well-tolerated, consistent with its established safety profile from previous clinical trials. Treatment compliance was high, with low participant dropout rates.
ALK will work with its Chinese partner, Changchun GeneScience Pharmaceutical Co. (GenSci), to seek regulatory approval in China, with the filing expected in the first half of 2027. Subject to approval, ACARIZAX will be added to GenSci's portfolio under their partnership agreement.
China has an estimated more than 100 million people affected by house dust mite allergy, while fewer than 1 million currently receive allergy immunotherapy. The trial results do not affect ALK's financial guidance for 2026.
