AstraZeneca PLC (AZN) and Oracle Health & Life Sciences (ORCL) announced on Tuesday the launch of a global Artificial Intelligence (AI) collaboration to improve clinical trial recruitment, earlier disease diagnosis, drug safety monitoring, and the use of real-world evidence.
The companies have signed a non-binding term sheet for the collaboration. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The collaboration will combine AstraZeneca's scientific, clinical development and regulatory expertise with Oracle's real-world data, cloud infrastructure and AI-enabled clinical capabilities.
The initiatives will span oncology, cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases, respiratory and immunology, and rare diseases, with projects planned across the U.S., Middle East, and Europe.
The first program will focus on hypertension care and clinical research in Abu Dhabi, in partnership with healthcare company M42. The initiative aims to identify patients with uncontrolled hypertension, support guideline-directed treatment and improve clinical trial recruitment.
The companies will use de-identified real-world data under privacy and security safeguards. AstraZeneca will not receive patient-identifiable information.
According to the companies each proposed project will require separate legal, regulatory, ethical, and institutional review before proceeding.
AZN closed on Monday at $163.95, down 0.88%. In the overnight trading, the stock rose 0.59% to $164.92.
While Oracle shares closed Monday at $129.59, up 1.06%. In the overnight market, shares fell 0.75% to $128.62.
