Unicycive Therapeutics (UNCY) said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) accepted the resubmission of its New Drug Application (NDA) for oxylanthanum carbonate (OLC), an investigational oral phosphate binder for hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis.
The FDA classified the resubmission as a Class II review with a six-month review period and assigned a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) target action date of March 25, 2027.
The resubmission follows a Complete Response Letter received in June 2026, which cited deficiencies previously identified at the original third-party drug product manufacturing facility that the FDA had been unable to reinspect during the prior review.
The updated application includes Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) data from a new third-party drug product manufacturing vendor. The company said the new vendor's facility was last inspected by the FDA in March 2024 and received a No Action Indicated status.
Unicycive said the FDA did not raise concerns regarding OLC's clinical or preclinical data, including safety data, in the original NDA submission. The application is supported by three clinical studies, preclinical studies and manufacturing data.
OLC uses proprietary nanoparticle technology designed to provide high phosphate-binding potency with a lower pill burden for patients undergoing dialysis. The company is seeking approval through the FDA's 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway.
The company said the timing and outcome of any FDA inspection of the original manufacturing vendor remain at the agency's discretion. If that facility is inspected and found compliant with current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements, Unicycive plans to seek FDA alignment on a potentially shorter approval timeline.
Currently, UNCY is trading at $4.10, up 8.06%.
