Amgen (AMGN) and AstraZeneca (AZN) reported Phase 3 results showing that IMDELLTRA combined with IMFINZI significantly improved survival in patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC), an aggressive form of lung cancer with historically poor outcomes.
The findings come from the Phase 3 DeLLphi-305 trial, which evaluated IMDELLTRA plus IMFINZI as a first-line maintenance treatment in patients whose disease had not progressed following initial chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
At a median follow-up of approximately 16 months, the combination reduced the risk of death by 58% compared with IMFINZI alone. Median overall survival improved to 21.1 months versus 12.7 months for patients receiving IMFINZI alone.
Nearly 80% of patients receiving the combination were alive after one year, compared with 53% of those treated with IMFINZI alone.
The study also showed a 66% reduction in the risk of disease progression or death, with median progression-free survival increasing to 7.4 months from 1.9 months. In addition, more than six times as many patients achieved an objective tumor response compared with IMFINZI alone.
Benefits were observed across multiple patient groups, including individuals with brain or liver metastases, populations that typically face poorer outcomes.
Additional data from the Phase 1b DeLLphi-303 study showed encouraging longer-term results for IMDELLTRA in the first-line maintenance setting. With a median follow-up of 30.8 months, median overall survival exceeded 37 months, while more than half of patients remained alive at two years.
The safety profile of IMDELLTRA plus IMFINZI was generally consistent with the known profiles of the individual medicines. Most cases of cytokine release syndrome, a known side effect of T-cell-engaging therapies, were low grade, and no new safety signals were reported.
The late-breaking DeLLphi-305 results were presented during a Presidential Symposium at the ESMO Congress 2026 and were simultaneously published in the New England Jornal of Medicine.
The findings further expand the growing body of evidence supporting IMDELLTRA across multiple stages of small cell lung cancer, with several evaluating the therapy in both first-line and previously treated patients.
AZN has traded between $153.41 and $212.71 over the past year. The stock closed Friday's trading (October 23, 2026) at $171.49, down 0.63%. In pre-market trading the stock is at $172.91, up 0.83%.
