Roche (RHHBY) announced that it has received CE Mark approval for its cobas smart e immunoanalyser, a compact laboratory testing system designed to bring the performance of large central laboratories to smaller healthcare settings.
Immunoassays analyzers are used to run diagnostic tests that help detect and monitor a wide range of conditions, including heart disease, cancer, infectious diseases, and metabolic disorders.
According to Roche the new system occupies less than one square meter of space and is designed for hospitals, clinics, and laboratories, that may not have the capacity for larger testing platforms. The company said the analyzer has a planned menu of more than 100 immunoassays and can deliver results within 18 minutes or less for more than 90% of tests.
The cobas smart e uses the same reagents and Elecsys technology as Roche's larger cobas testing systems, allowing healthcare facilities of different sizes to generate comparable results using the same testing platform.
Roche said the analyzer also aims to address laboratory staffing challenges by requiring about one minute of daily operator intervention and reducing maintenance efforts compared with earlier-generation systems.
The company expects the platform to help smaller laboratories perform more diagnostic testing in-house, potentially reducing the time required to obtain patient test results and lowering the need to send samples to larger centralized laboratories.
The cobas smart e joins Roche's existing cobas immunoassay portfolio, which includes systems designed for both low-volume clinics and high-throughput hospital laboratories.
RHHBY has traded between $40.07 and $61.49 over the past year. The stock closed Monday's trading at $59.98, down 1.95%.
