Seoul will host the World Steel Association's annual general meeting in 2027, marking the event's return to the city for the first time in 22 years since 2005.
POSCO Holdings said on Oct. 14 that Seoul was selected as the host city for the 2027 meeting during a World Steel Association members' meeting held in New Delhi, India, on Oct. 13.
The World Steel Association is an international industry organization comprising steelmakers, national steel associations and research institutions. Its Korean members include POSCO Holdings, Hyundai Steel, Dongkuk Steel and Daehan Steel. Member companies account for 85% of global steel production.
At the annual meeting, chief executives of global steelmakers discuss key industry issues and explore cooperation for sustainable development.
Chang In-hwa, chairman of POSCO Group and the Korea Iron & Steel Association, led the successful bid to host the meeting in Seoul. At an executive committee meeting on Oct. 11, participants discussed key issues including guidelines for low-carbon steel products and international standardization of carbon emissions allocation methods.
Chang also met with executives of major steelmakers, including Sajjan Jindal, chairman of JSW Group. POSCO is currently pursuing a joint investment with India's JSW Steel to build a steel plant in the country.
