Intel has stepped up construction and equipment installation at Fab 62 on its Ocotillo campus in Arizona.
“Fab 62 will be the sixth high-volume manufacturing facility at our Ocotillo campus in Arizona, Intel’s manufacturing home,” said Naga Chandrasekaran, executive vice president and chief technology and operations officer of Intel Foundry, on Oct. 22 local time. He confirmed that construction and equipment installation were underway at the facility.
Intel plans to begin operating Fab 62 by the end of 2028. The facility is expected to use the company’s 1.4-nanometer-class Intel 14A process.
Intel began constructing Fab 52 and Fab 62 at its Ocotillo campus in 2021. Fab 52 was completed in 2023 and has been mass-producing chips based on Intel’s 18A process since late 2025. Intel 18A combines RibbonFET and PowerVia technologies.
Chandrasekaran also provided updates on Intel’s other U.S. manufacturing projects. The company’s $28 billion semiconductor plant in New Albany, Ohio, recently installed its first major roof truss. Originally scheduled for completion in 2025, the facility is now expected to be completed in 2030 due to funding difficulties.
At its Oregon facility, Intel plans to become the first in the industry to deploy high-numerical-aperture extreme ultraviolet (High NA-EUV) lithography equipment in mass production. The Oregon site will serve as a research and development (R&D) and manufacturing hub for advanced logic semiconductors, including 3D interconnect technology.
Intel is also conducting advanced packaging R&D, back-end assembly and testing at its Arizona campus. In New Mexico, the company is carrying out large-scale advanced packaging production, while construction has begun on a new mask manufacturing facility in Santa Clara, California.
