Applied Materials Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) stock fell more than 2% in Tuesday’s premarket trading as semiconductor equipment stocks faced selling pressure.
The decline came as Nasdaq futures dropped 0.60%, while S&P 500 futures slipped 0.11%.
Applied Materials faced pressure amid broader weakness in technology stocks.
Investors are also watching key technical levels after the stock’s strong performance over the past year.
Unveils $5 Billion AI Chip Research Hub With Industry Heavyweights
Separately, Applied Materials on Monday unveiled its $5 billion EPIC Center in Silicon Valley to accelerate semiconductor innovation for artificial intelligence.
The 600,000-square-foot facility in Sunnyvale will bring together leading chipmakers, equipment manufacturers and researchers to speed up the development and commercialization of next-generation chip technologies.
Founding partners include Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (NYSE:TSM), Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC), Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (OTC:SSNLF), Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) and SK hynix Inc. (NASDAQ:SKHY), while Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO) and other technology companies have joined as innovation partners.
Applied Materials expects the center to shorten development cycles, improve manufacturing efficiency and help bring advanced AI chips and memory technologies into mass production faster.
The company plans to scale its investment to approximately $5 billion as customer projects begin.
Technical Analysis
Applied Materials remains in a longer-term uptrend despite recent volatility. The stock trades 11.7% above its 200-day simple moving average (SMA) of $435.51.
However, near-term momentum has weakened. Shares trade 0.3% below the 20-day SMA of $487.78 and 0.7% below the 50-day SMA of $489.74.
The 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA, signaling potential short-term weakness. Still, the 50-day average remains above the 200-day average, supporting the broader bullish trend.
The relative strength index (RSI) stands at 51.53, indicating neutral momentum. An RSI near 50 suggests neither buyers nor sellers have a clear advantage.
Investors are watching resistance at $547.50 and support at $426. A move above resistance could strengthen the bullish outlook, while a break below support could signal further downside.
The stock’s 52-week range is $203.40 to $739.67.
Earnings And Analyst Outlook
Applied Materials is expected to report earnings on Nov. 12, 2026.
Analysts project earnings of $4.05 per share, up from $2.17 a year earlier. Revenue is expected to reach $10.30 billion, compared with $6.80 billion last year.
The stock trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 42.9, reflecting elevated growth expectations.
Analysts maintain a consensus Buy rating, with an average price forecast of $675.91.
Recent analyst actions include Morgan Stanley maintaining an Equal-Weight rating while lowering its price forecast to $563 on Sept. 28.
UBS maintained a Buy rating and raised its price forecast to $695 on Sept. 1. Meanwhile, Mizuho maintained an Outperform rating but lowered its price forecast to $590 on Aug. 25.
Benzinga Edge Rankings
Applied Materials shows strong momentum and quality scores, according to Benzinga Edge rankings.
Its momentum score stands at 94.63, while its quality score reaches 96.06. These readings reflect strong historical price performance and fundamentals.
However, its value score of 10.69 highlights valuation concerns. Its growth score of 48.68 suggests a more balanced outlook.
Overall, the rankings point to strong fundamentals but limited valuation flexibility. A recovery above key moving averages could improve the near-term technical picture.
ETF Exposure
Applied Materials also features in several exchange-traded funds, including the TCW Transform Systems ETF (NASDAQ:PWRD), with a 4.88% weighting.
The Corgi Lithography & Semiconductor Photonics ETF (NASDAQ:EUV) holds a 6.26% weighting, while the Mango Growth ETF (NASDAQ:GARY) has a 5.26% allocation.
These holdings expose the funds to changes in Applied Materials’ share price. Significant fund inflows or outflows could also affect demand for the stock, depending on how the ETFs manage their portfolios.
AMAT Stock Price Activity
Applied Materials shares fell 2.22% to $486.51 in Tuesday’s premarket trading, according to Benzinga Pro data.
