不做 美国银行(BAC.US)

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) shares fell more than 8% Wednesday after the bank missed third-quarter estimates just one day after the Treasury Department hit it with a $1.2 billion fine.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Treasury announced more than $1.21 billion in penalties against the bank, saying it had failed for years to report over $5 billion in suspicious transactions. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency contributed $750 million, the largest penalty in the agency’s history.
The market’s reaction was far larger.

The Math
By 10:11 a.m. ET, Bank of America stock had dropped about 8.4% to $49.44, according to Benzinga Pro market data. Multiplied across roughly 7.1 billion shares, the decline erased about $32 billion in market value, more than 25 times the fine.
Through Tuesday’s close, shares were down 1.9% for 2026. After Wednesday’s slide, they’re about 10% lower year to date and roughly 24% below the 52-week high of $65.23.
Still a Miss Without the Fine
The penalty doesn’t explain the whole miss. Bank of America earned 91 cents a share, well short of the $1.10 analysts expected. Revenue of $30 billion also trailed the $30.69 billion estimate.
The fine took about 17 cents a share off net income. Adding it back brings earnings to roughly $1.08 a share, still below forecasts. The Wall Street Journal said profit disappointed “even excluding” the Treasury penalty.
Profit fell to $6.9 billion from $8.3 billion a year earlier, and investment banking fees dropped 11% to $1.8 billion. Trading was weaker too. Sales and trading revenue fell 5% to $5.1 billion as fixed income, currencies and commodities slumped, even though CEO Brian Moynihan had forecast roughly flat results in September.
Control Questions
Regulators portrayed the compliance failures as long-running and widespread. The bank’s anti-money-laundering program “continues to reflect widespread breakdowns in internal controls, which threatens U.S. national and economic security,” Comptroller Jonathan Gould said. The OCC added that the bank never fixed problems flagged in a 2024 cease-and-desist order.
Treasury’s language was harsher. It said the bank “prioritized its revenues” while keeping compliance resources to a minimum.
Bank of America says its remediation costs are already in its expense base. Even so, analysts told Reuters the penalty raises questions about future expenses and how long the regulatory order will last.
Neither has a clear end date, and investors are treating that uncertainty as far more costly than the fine itself.
BAC Stock Price Activity: Bank of America shares are trading lower by 7.68% at $49.81 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
