CLP Engineer in School Programme Launches
New “Powering Tomorrow's Innovators Challenge”
Empowering Students to Shape the Future of Energy through Innovation
As extreme weather grows more frequent and the energy transition brings new challenges,
grid resilience and power supply reliability have become a key priority for the power industry.
CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) launches the new Powering Tomorrow’s
Innovators Challenge under its Engineer in School Programme for the 2026/27 academic
year.
Designed as a year-long learning journey, the Challenge gives junior secondary students first-
hand exposure to power engineering and emerging energy challenges through a range of
experiential activities. Students will apply artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative
technologies to develop creative solutions, and build prototypes, that make the power grid
more reliable and resilient. The Challenge is supported by the Education Bureau, the
Electrical Division of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and Hong Kong Education City.
CLP Power Chief Corporate Development Officer Ms Quince Chong said, “Talent is the
cornerstone of innovation and sustainable development. As AI and other technologies
advance rapidly, technical knowledge alone is no longer enough. Young people also need
creativity and the ability to solve real-world problems. Through the newly enhanced
Engineer in School Programme, we hope to give students a year-long learning experience
that inspires them to combine technology with creativity, turn their knowledge into practical
solutions and prepare for the future.”
Under the theme of “Powering a Resilient Future”, participating students will harness AI,
the Internet of Things (IoT), big data and robotics to develop creative solutions to tackle
challenges such as extreme weather, power supply reliability and energy resilience. Going
beyond ideas, they will design and build prototypes to turn their concepts into practical
applications.
Throughout the year, students will also take part in a series of activities, including school
talks, visits to CLP facilities, AI workshops and mentoring sessions with industry experts,
deepening their understanding of energy, power grids, engineering and the power industry.
The Challenge is open to teams of Secondary 1 to 3 students for the 2026/27 academic year,
and applications close on 18 December 2026. Each finalist team will receive HK$10,000 to
1
build its prototype, and winning teams will receive prizes worth a total of HK$50,000. For
