Key highlights

Revenue, operating income, net income all see YoY increases

Revenue up 9% YoY, achieving record high for Q1

All business segments making steady progress toward FY2026 forecasts

Enterprise segment operating income up 28% YoY

On August 4, 2026, SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434) President & CEO Junichi Miyakawa presented earnings results for the first quarter (April - June 2026, Q1) of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027 (FY2026). At the press conference held in Tokyo, Miyakawa reviewed SoftBank’s consolidated results, reporting revenue of 1,814.7 billion JPY, a 9% year-on-year (YoY) increase and a record high for Q1.

Operating income was 302.3 billion JPY and net income was 150.1 billion JPY, representing 9% and 7% YoY increases, respectively, when excluding a one-time factor. Miyakawa noted that revenue increased in all segments and profits increased in the Enterprise, Distribution and Financial segments. With these Q1 results, good progress is being made toward the FY2026 full-year forecast, with 24% of revenue, 27% of operating income and 27% of net income achieved in so far.

Cloud & AI a growth driver in Enterprise segment

Reviewing SoftBank’s business segments in detail, Miyakawa noted that Q1 revenue for the Enterprise segment was 260.4 billion JPY, up 11% YoY, thanks to 31% YoY revenue growth from AI computing infrastructure and other services classified as Cloud & AI. “We expect this compound annual growth rate of 30% for Cloud & AI will continue,” he said.

Operating income for the Enterprise segment was 62.2 billion JPY, up 28% YoY.

Miyakawa also highlighted the full-scale launch of the cybersecurity solution Patching as a Service in July 2026, noting that a 1,000 person team is now deploying the solution to Japan-based enterprise customers operating critical infrastructure.

Consumer segment makes steady progress toward full-year profit growth

Consumer segment revenue was 749.7 billion JPY, up 4% YoY while operating income was down by 1% YoY at 152.9 billion JPY. Miyakawa noted that steady progress toward full-year profit growth is being made, with 27% achieved in Q1. Mobile average revenue per user (ARPU) is seeing growth thanks to the penetration of the “Pay-toku” price plan and service improvements.

New initiatives in Finance segment to drive growth and synergies

The Media & EC Business segment, which incorporates LY Corporation (the operator of “LINE” and “Yahoo! JAPAN” services), saw FY2026 Q1 growth in revenue of 10% YoY at 446.8 billion JPY, and, when excluding a one-time factor, an increase in operating income by 19% YoY at 66.7 billion JPY.

In the Financial Business segment, Q1 FY2026 revenue was up by 27% YoY at 115.9 billion JPY and operating income reached 31.8 billion JPY, up 76% YoY.

As a growth initiative, Miyakawa noted that PayPay announced it will acquire 70.2% of T&D Financial Life’s shares for 132.0 JPY, making it a subsidiary. “This transaction will strengthen PayPay’s insurance services,” Miyakawa said.

He also highlighted that SB Payment Service Corp., another company in the Financial segment, announced it will acquire payment service provider SP.LINKS Co., Ltd. and make it a wholly-owned subsidiary. The investment is expected to expand SB Payment Service’s gross merchandise value (GMV) and create integration synergies, giving it a full lineup of payment processing services.

The capital and business alliance with Seven & i Holdings announced on July 31 was also highlighted. The partnership sees SoftBank, PayPay and Sumitomo Mitsui Card each investing 100.0 billion JPY. SoftBank’s role will be to provide AI-powered demand forecasting, AI security, delivery robots and other advanced technologies to transform the customer experience in Japan and provide next-generation lifestyle infrastructure. “We want to be a helpful partner in Japan, and roll out AI-driven technologies and business models to stores worldwide,” Miyakawa said.

Expanding beyond Japan with SB Neo

Toward the end of his presentation, Miyakawa explained the rationale behind the formation of SB Neo , a new company that will operate a neocloud business in the United States. He noted SB Neo’s business will utilize the SoftBank Group’s infrastructure, and expand in phases while maintaining financial soundness. He also said the company is aiming to launch Infrinia AI Cloud OS services—software for AI data centers already available in Japan in beta form—in FY2027.

When explaining the capital allocation policy, he stressed that SoftBank will continue to execute strategic investments while balancing capital soundness and capital efficiency.
