Speaker 2: Podcasts. Radio. News. The Stock Movers Report. Your roundup of companies making moves in the stock market. Harnessing the power of Bloomberg data.
Speaker 3: All right. I'm Carol Master along with Tim Stanovic. Let's take a look at some stocks on the move on this Tuesday. And we've got to talk financials. Yes, there were earnings, but there was also some stuff after the closing bell today.
Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to start with Bank of America, which in the after hours has really taken a leg lower, down about 2.5%. The company was fined more than $ 1. 21 billion for money laundering and sanctions violations by U.S. regulators. Enforcement actions announced by the Treasury Department include a record $ 750 million civil penalty for From the Office of the Comptroller of Currency, that's according to Statement Tuesday, regulators also place the bank under a consent order. Bank of America is scheduled to report third quarter earnings before markets open on Wednesday, so we'll hear from them tomorrow. The bank said it expects those results to include $ 1. 2 billion in non-tax deductible charge that will cut into net income by about 17 cents a share.
Speaker 3: We'll make that Wednesday earnings call really interesting and shifts the focus to probably what analysts and investors want to know about.
Speaker 1: Well, just to remind everybody, last week regulators fined American Express $ 350 million for failing to catch and report money laundering in its system.
Speaker 3: All right. Well, you know, these are things that certainly worry investors when it comes to a financial name, right? Things like this. We should talk Citi, shouldn't we?
Speaker 1: Yeah, let's talk Citi. This was a really interesting one. Citi, ticker C, and Bank of America is B-A-C. Thank you for that, Carol.
Speaker 2: You're welcome.
Speaker 1: Citi is C. The company fell more than 5% today, 5.6%. That was its biggest decline in more than a year. It was actually a good quarter. Mm-hmm. Fixed income traders had the best third quarter in at least a decade. The services business saw revenues rise 15%. The company reported earnings per share of $ 2. 85, surpassing the average analyst estimate from analysts. Revenue rose about 8%. But it was the outlook. Herman Chan from our Blooming Intelligence team was on our program today. And he said the outlook came in a bit, quote, conservative. He said Citi did this a couple quarters ago, and shares fell, and it looks like that's happening again.
Speaker 3: I think it's safe to say that investors are a little bit sensitive when it comes to Citi. They've been certainly making a lot of changes, and they've had quite a comeback and really outperforming among most of the big banks, it looks like, year to date. But yeah, it was a funny, funny day for some of the big banks. All right, I'm going to go on over to Microsoft because we did see that stock just up about four-tenths of a percent in the trade. But what's interesting, maybe not the move itself, but the stock did hit its first record in about a year. It has gained more than 54% from a June low, adding roughly $ 1. 4 trillion in market value. A sentiment toward the company and its position in artificial intelligence continues to improve. At least two firms raising interest their ratings on the stock to buy after a July 29th earnings report that revealed the fastest revenue growth for Microsoft's cloud computing business in four years. So it is back, and investors, as we said, its first record in about a year. And then I got to mention Bumble. Of course, a ticker for Microsoft, MSFT, and then Bumble, B-M-B-L. That stock up 56% in today's session, up the most since February of 2021. They are, you might say, the stock off the market?
Speaker 1: Yes. Oh, okay. I like what you did there.
Speaker 2: You like what I did there?
Speaker 1: Yeah, I like what you did there.
Speaker 3: The dating app being taken private by Ithaca Holdings for $ 1. 3 billion. It's a fraction of the value of the company when it went public back in 2021. Ithaca Holdings paying $ 6.
Speaker 2: 05 a share.
Speaker 3: That is $ 101. 38% premium over Bumble's closing share price on Friday when some of this started to percolate.
Speaker 1: $ 6 and how much? $ 0.
Speaker 2: 05.
Speaker 1: $ 6. 05? Yeah. So back in 2021, this was $ 75. 46 per share.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 3: Big change. Big change. After the deal is completed, Ethica Holdings, two CEOs will become co-CEOs of Bumble, and founder Whitney Wolf Hurd will remain actively involved with Bumble. There you have it.
Speaker 1: Okay. It's on the move. You know, the dating apps are getting, they're having a hard time.
Speaker 3: This conversation I heard earlier, I think it was also in surveillance. Like people are not, younger people are not used to the dating apps.
Speaker 1: They want to meet in person.
Speaker 2: In person.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
