Speaker 3: Christine, what are you looking at?
Speaker 2: Hey, Scarlett. All right, let's get into the bank earnings this morning. I'm going to lead with Goldman because that's pretty notable. I mean, crushing the estimates on the equity trading revenue side of things, $ 6.
Speaker 3: 44 billion versus an.
Speaker 2: Estimate of $ 5. 1 billion. So it easily maintains a its lead amongst its Wall Street peers on that front anyway. But, you know, in terms of the share performance, we're actually seeing those shares now pairing a lot of the opening gains here. So ticker GS, if you look now, it's up just about one tenth of one percent. And that pair comes, you know, the Goldman call is on the way at the moment. And we did just hear from CEO David Solomon earlier talking about the transition timeline or a succession timeline. And he's saying that he wants to be clear, there is no succession transition or timeline underway at Goldman Sachs. Incidentally, we saw the shares pairing some of those opening gains. So a little bit of an insight into some of the worries that investors have in terms of Goldman leadership here. But otherwise, you know, very nice figures on the equity trading revenue, a little bit of disappointment on FICTO, but that's been the theme this morning, at least when it comes to Wall Street banks that have reported.
Speaker 3: Wasn't there a story recently, I think, on the Bloomberg about succession plans in place? And they were even talking about bringing somebody up through the ranks who had been at the company. I think of a veteran of the company.
Speaker 2: Yes, exactly.
Speaker 1: Yeah.
Speaker 2: I mean, that's definitely been the scuttlebutt, Alexis. I mean, and, you know, it would make sense for a giant like Goldman to kind of lean into the continuity piece. Right. But now we have David Solomon this morning very clearly weighing in on this. At the moment, there is no such plans. He's going to stay in place, though he did note on the call that he is at the moment 64 years old.
Speaker 3: So he's still making music, I guess, doing his thing. All right. Now let's move away from banks for a moment and jump into UnitedHealthcare because a nice, I guess, turnaround story is unfolding there.
Speaker 2: That's exactly right, Alexis. So it was a beat and race quarter for United, but you wouldn't know it looking at the shares at the moment. So check your UNH. Those are down significantly. About five-tenths of 1% here. But, you know, in terms of the results themselves, the third quarter earnings beating estimates, adjusted EPS was above estimates at $ 4. 69 versus an estimate of $ 4. 12. And as you mentioned, right, the turnaround story very much underway here. But I think what's spooking investors a little bit is the trend higher in health care costs. We have CFO Wayne DeVate weighing in on this and saying that the trend is remains elevated in terms of healthcare costs, but it is very stable. But that's definitely something that investors are going to be focusing on moving forward and probably contributing to a little bit of a share weakness that we're seeing now.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 1: So consumers, employers, and the health insurers all feeling the effects of higher healthcare costs. Last stock that you're watching, Christine?
Speaker 2: Looking at Seagate this morning as well, Scarlett. So ticker STX, and those shares are down about 4.8%.
Speaker 3: At the moment.
Speaker 2: So of course, it's a hardware and memory maker. And following the decline in South Korean equities overnight, and of course, we did get this report as well, the Chinese memory chip giant CXMT has made, quote, key progress on a new cell architecture to boost memory density. So it's looking like investors are thinking that's going to be formidable competition for a lot of the hardware and memory makers, especially because CXMT is planning to roll out A new server memory product by the end of 2026. Looks like that space is about to get a lot tighter.
