- Big Yellow

Speaker 3: Now let's take a look at some of the stocks on the move today in Europe. I'm Tiva Adebayo with Stephen Carroll and we're joined by Bloomberg reporter Josh Gaunt-Warner. Josh, let's start with one of Europe's biggest tech players driving a lot of market moves this morning, ASML. How are traders reading their latest earnings?
Speaker 1: Well, in short, they are being taken well.
Speaker 2: It was a bit shaky at the open, but shares are up about 2% this morning. As a reminder, ASML is seen as a big bellwether for the European tech space. It's the only company that makes these cutting-edge machines that are used to make semiconductor chips, which are used in the data centers that are powering this AI boom that we're seeing. The company has basically said it's going to struggle to meet demand over the next couple of years. It said just a couple of months ago that it was aiming to lift capacity by about 30%, but it now appears like it's going to strive beyond that.
Speaker 1: There are signs of demand stretching further out.
Speaker 2: Some customers are now expressing interest in placing orders as far out as sort of 2030. And so, overall, this update is helping restore some of the confidence about demand in the broader AI market. there's been some fears recently about sentiment sort of overheating. And we can see that semiconductor stocks like ASML International and Infineon and also some data center players like Nokia and Ericsson are also climbing on the back of the report this morning.
Speaker 4: Okay.
Speaker 1: So, that's the big story in the tech sector this morning.
Speaker 2: Moving back into the physical world, perhaps, let's talk a little bit about Big Yellow Group, the storage company.
Speaker 1: Their share is higher today. What's going on?
Speaker 2: Yeah, so Big Yellow is the UK's largest self-storage company and it's being targeted by an activist investor named Ancora Holdings. Now, Ancora has built a stake of about 4% in the business and is now pushing the company to explore putting itself up for sale.
Speaker 1: Shares are reacting positively. They're up over 5% this morning.
Speaker 2: The argument is that Big Yellow is a resilient and attractive business, but is basically undervalued by the public markets. So, Ancora sees an opportunity to unlock some value if the company can explore its options and see if there's any interest from possible bidders. Now, that's interesting because Big Yellow spoke to some firms about a potential sale about a year ago, but nothing actually materialized. And since then, shares are down by about 28%. So, the attractiveness of any deal to a possible buyer may have changed quite dramatically.
Speaker 1: Ancora basically says.
Speaker 2: That Big Yellow shares are trading at about a 40% discount to its net asset value now. So, that's the kind of window of opportunity that Ancora sees.
Speaker 3: And finally, Josh, I know your team have been across all of the twists and turns as we are in the midst of earnings season this morning, but I know you've got your eye on Admiral.
Speaker 1: So, tell us about the latest moves there. Yeah.
Speaker 2: So, the insurance provider is down about 2% today. Analysts at Peel Hunt have cut their price target and that now sits at the lowest of any broker that tracks the stock, followed by us here at Bloomberg. This is mostly on concerns surrounding the UK motor insurance market. Analysts have said rates continue to lag claims inflation and basically believe this won't improve anytime soon. It faces headwinds as basically it believes Admiral will have to raise motor insurance rates. But this is in a very competitive market. And it says, although that it will be aimed at trying to protect margins, that it may actually struggle anyway. So, Peel Hunt believes the shares look expensive. Obviously, don't see a very positive outlook for the stock. The new price target is at 2,460 pence, and that is about 34% lower from current levels. So, big downside predicted there at Admiral from Peel Hunt.
